Subject: Perplexing Problem....
I'm having a strange problem with my Z axis. I use probing to set the Z offset, and the probing result seems 100% consistent and repeatable. I can probe, zero the Z axis to the top of work, then move the Z axis up, and back down to +0.063, and the touchplate slips nicely under the tool. I can re-home the Z axis, move back down to +0.063, and the touchplate slips nicely under the tool. I can repeat this as many times as I like. But, if I then move to -0.100, and do a short cut, the cut depth is consistently about 0.010" too deep, and I then have to move up to 0.073" for the touchplate to be able to again slip under the tool. So, it's acting like the Z offset has changed, but it hasn't. I can even re-home at this point, and the 0.010" offset is still there! Where is that 0.010" offset coming from? There is essentially no backlash (<0.0005"). What's going on here?

Ray L.

Hi Ray,

I don't know, but you might go through the steps step-by-step while recording the KMotion Axis Screen Destinations to check where things are being commanded in raw machine counts.  Also describe what you mean by "do a short cut".

Tom,

I'll give that a try. AFAICT, It's been doing this since I started using the KFlop, only on the Z axis. Very weird.

By "do a short cut" I mean I cut some metal - about an inch long cut, so I can measure the depth.
